Fred Gale Spiker was born on 8 September 1924 in Gary, Lake, Indiana.1,2 He and Mardella M. Roach were married in 1945.3 He and Mardella M. Roach were divorced on 25 May 1970 in Hubbard County, Minnesota.3 He and Beverly Jean Hanson were married on 18 January 1971 in Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas.4 He died on 5 May 2009, at age 84, in Ely, St Louis, Minnesota.4,2
11th Airborne US Army- WWll.4 Fred Gale Spiker was a Crane Operator/ Electrician-US Steel/Owner- Operator Spike's Peak Resort.4 Fred Gale Spiker, age 84 of Eagle's Nest Lake died Tuesday, May 05, 2009 in the Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home. He was born September 8, 1924 in Gary, IN, the son of James and Myrtle Spiker, and was a graduate of Edison High School in Gary, IN. Fred served his country during WWII in the US Army. He was trained as a glider pilot and then attended paratrooper training. He served in the Philippines with the 11th Airborne and was a recipient of multiple Bronze Stars. He was employed by US Steel on the Gary Iron Works as a Crane Operator and later an electrician. Fred moved to Park Rapids, MN in 1963 where he owned and operated Spike's Peak Resort on Little Mantrap Lake. In 1967 he moved to the Virginia area and was employed by US Steel Minntac as an Electrician retiring in 1976. It was during this time he met Beverly Hanson and they were married on January 18, 1971 in Hot Springs, Ark. After his US Steel retirement, Fred moved to Eagle's Nest Lake and was employed by Inland Steels' Minorca Mine as an Electrical Foreman, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Tower Lion's Club and the Eagles Nest Senior Citizens. Fred enjoyed gardening, putzing around the house, hunting and fishing. He liked cars, and drove racecars in his earlier days. He was an energetic, generous man with a keen sense of humor who loved to spend time with his kids and grand kids.
Fred is survived by his children, Fred Wayne Spiker of Phoenix, AZ, Gary (Teresa) Spiker of Dewey, AZ, Gary (Beth) Adams of Duluth, Ken (Marie) Adams of Toney, AL, Kathleen (Henry) Sande of Gilbert, Cheryl Adams of Sawyer, MN, Bonnie Adams of Ely, Jim (Evie) Adams of Niles, MI, and DeAnn Schatz of Ely; sisters, Sharon Jenkins of Demotte, IN and Darlene Prebys of Las Vegas, NV; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and a sister.
A Gathering time for Family & Friends will be held Friday, May 8, 2009 from 12 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service in Bauman's Vermilion Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Wefel will officiate.

MARLENE SHARON JENKINS DeMotte, Indiana Marlene Sharon Jenkins 68 of DeMotte passed away on June 4, 2009 at St. Anthony Hospice Center, with her loving family by her side.

Born on October 24, 1940 in Gary, Indiana to the Late James and Myrtle (Carpenter) Spiker.

On October 21, 1961 she married John J. Jenkins. She worked for Nipsco as a Station Mechanic, was a Member of the American Reformed Church in DeMotte, assisted with many of the Ladies Groups at church, enjoyed playing pinnochole, and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Jenkins; brothers, Fred Spiker, James Spiker; sister, Virginia Reimer. She is survived by her sons, Jerry (Lisa) Smith of Wheatfield, James Jenkins of DeMotte; daughters, Wanda (Martin) Mitchell of Lafayette, Dawn Jenkins of DeMotte; sister, Darlene Prebys of Las Vegas. Marlene had 11 loving grandchildren and 7 loving great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 9, 2009 at 11 am in the Frazier Funeral Home 621 S. Halleck DeMotte, In 46310, with Pastor Dan Jelsma Officiating, burial will follow in the Holland Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday June 8, 2009 from 2pm- 8pm at the Frazier Funeral Home of DeMotte.

John J. Jenkins "Jack" passed away on October 16, 2008 at his home with his family by his side. Born on December 24, 1938 to Clifford & Mary Jenkins. Jack worked for Area Welding & Supply. A Graduate of Horace Man High School Gary, Indiana. He also was a member of the American Reformed Church in Demotte, and loved his family they were everything to him. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory be Eternal.

Robert E. Prebys, 69, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 13, 1931, in South Bend, Ind. A resident for 11 years, he was an accountant in the aerospace industry for 35 years and a Korean War Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; three daughters, Lori Rosenbaum and Christine Fortenberry, both of Las Vegas, and Roberta Allen of Texas; one son, Theodore Prebys of California; four brothers, Theodore C. Prebys and Conrad Prebys, both of California, Ronald Prebys of Kentucky and Paul Prebys of Alabama; and four grandchildren.
