Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Covenant-Cooper. Age 88 years. The son of the late Robert Henry and Anna (Fenby) Tiderington was born September 5, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan. Bob graduated from Cooley High School, Class of 1935. He married Charlotte Hughes, April 19, 1941. She survives him. He took courses in typing and shorthand at the Detroit Business Institute. He was employed by Detroit Ball Bearing Co. until moving to Saginaw when they opened a branch, eventually becoming its manager. He was offered the opportunity to purchase Flack-Pennell which later merged with J. George Fischer, forming Fischer-Flack, Inc. where Bob served as President. Bob was well liked and was involved in community affairs. He served as President of the Saginaw Township Public School Board; President of the United Way; a member of United Way of Michigan; a member and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saginaw Chamber of Commerce; Vice President of Michigan State Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Directors of St. Lukes Hospital and a member of the Joint Operating Committee of Saginaw Medical Center. Bob was a member and President of the Saginaw Club, member of the Saginaw Country Club, a member and President of the Torch Club; a life member of Germania Town and Country Club; member of the Honest John Club; member and President of the Downtown Lions Club, member and President of the Home for the Aged; President of the Y.M.C.A. and a member of the Navy League. He was a member and Past Master of the Saginaw Pioneer/Salina Lodge #79 F. & A.M.; and a member of the Jesters. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. He was honored by the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce with the Harry S. Lund Volunteer award and Robert H. Albert Community Service award. He was an honorary citizen of Tokushima, Japan for his help in building the Japanese Cultural Center. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. He loved to play golf. He enjoyed playing sports with his sons and their friends including football, basketball, golf, baseball and punt. Bob and Charlotte took several cruises. For their 45th Wedding Anniversary, they traveled on the QE II to England and returned to the United States on the Concorde. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Bob of Suttons Bay, MI and Oranjestad, Aruba; Jim of Saginaw; and Tom (Jan) of Kalamazoo, MI.; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Bob), Bob (Michelle), Jeff (Melissa), Ryan, Justin, Brie (David), Stacy, James, Emmy and Evan; eight great-grandchildren, Cassie, Gwyneth, Alex, Frank, Charlie, Meredith, Samantha and Abigail; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister, Ralph, Harry and Dorothy. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2006, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. William D. “Tex” Rickard and Rev. Weatherly Verhelst will co-officiate with entombment in Chapel Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Chapel from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the State Street United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross. Bob’s family extends special thanks to the staff of the C.C.U. at Covenant Health Care Center - Cooper Campus for their extraordinary compassion and professional care.
