3 Former Sandy resident Ronald Allen Nonamaker died Wednesday, Jan. 12, in Salinas, Calif., with his family by his side. He was 69.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Jan. 22, at Cliffside Cemetery in Sandy. A funeral service was held in California.
Ron was born in Grand Junction, Colo., to Ted and Vera (Allen) Nonamaker. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Oregon and settled in Portland. After completing his education, Ron worked at various jobs in the Portland area.
In 1963, Ron married Marlene Buscher in Portland. They resided in Portland for a short time before moving to Sandy. Ron worked for the Rockwood Water District and as a horse trainer. Ron and Marlene later divorced.
Ron moved to Grants Pass, where he trained horses and worked in construction. In the 1980s, Ron moved to California, where he trained horses, volunteered his time at the Salinas Rodeo and managed property. He met Carmen Perez, and they were married in 1993. They made their home in Salinas.
Ron worked as a property manager for 24 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and horse trainer.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Tana Burley of Sandy, Traci Miller of Tigard, Cynthia Santistevan of Salinas and Monica Gonzalez of Salinas; brothers, Dale Nonamaker of Salem and Jerry Nonamaker of Gresham; sister, Susie Shephard of Orchard, Wash.; 28 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Sandy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
