BRIDGEWATER, N.Y. - Harriet M. Vaughan, 89, formerly of Sparta, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica, N.Y.

Born in Sparta, Mrs. Vaughan was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Chamberlain Castimore. She graduated from Newton High School, and on Aug. 23, 1939, married Jay Vaughan. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.

Her husband passed away April 7, 2003, after 64 years of marriage.

Mrs. Vaughan leaves her daughter, Janice Jones of Eatin, N.Y.; her son, Jerry Vaughan of East Hardwick, Vt.; Richard Heater of Bridgewater, who had always been like a son; and a grandson and his wife, Jeffrey and Jenifer Vaughan and their daughter, Dalaney, of East Hardwick. She also is survived by one sister, Grace Rydell of Stroudsburg, Pa., and a brother, Glenn Castimore of Blairstown.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Interment will be in Vaughan Cemetery, Lafayette. Visitation begins at noon.
