"LAFAYETTE -- Daniel Leonard Vaughan, 90, died on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Newton Memorial Hospital.
Born at home in Lafayette, Mr. Vaughan was a lifelong resident. He operated a dairy farm at his Meadows Road home in Lafayette before his retirement 20 years ago. Mr. Vaughan was a World War II Army veteran.
The son of the late Judson and Edna Simmons Vaughan, Mr. Vaughan was also predeceased by his brothers, Paul and Jay, and his sisters, Marjorie Mahnken, Lucy Bennett, Leonora Murphy and Frances Vaughan.
He is survived by a sister, Marie Vaughan of Lafayette; 21 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and his extended family, RoseMarie Caccavale, and Roxanne, Georgiane, Michelle and George. He also leaves behind his dog, Dody.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Vaughan Cemetery in Sparta. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.
