"Lee" Albers, 79, of Sterling died at the VA Medical Center in Omaha on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. He was born on June 22, 1932 at Shelby. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He worked as a truck driver for several companies. He was a member of the Rockford, IL VFW and the Harm Sangen Post #140 of the American Legion of Sterling. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; four sons, Barry Albers, Paul Hassenfeldt, Ryan Albers and Shawn Albers; four daughters, Deborah Hassenfelt, Suzie Monroe, Jody Albers and Stacy Johnson; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick O. and Ruth A. Want Albers; one son, Michael; several brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Sterling Cemetery with Chaplain Doyle Karst. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday with the family greeting friends and relatives from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Friday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Harm Sangen Post #140 of the American Legion of Sterling.
