Dale Rodney Tewksbury, age 58, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2003 after a long and courageous fight against cancer. He died at home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born Aug. 26, 1944 in Sayre, he was a son of the late Eldred and Elsie (Love) Tewksbury of South Auburn. He graduated from the Elk Lake High School in 1962 and subsequently began his long career as a dairy farmer. He remained in farming until he retired in November of 2001. Dale also worked as a carpenter and painter. He served for a number of years as a volunteer firefighter with the Good Will Fire Company in Laceyville. He also served on the ambulance crew and in the position as fire chief. Dale worked as the leader of the South Auburn 4-H Club and was a member of the South Auburn Grange. He was elected as superintendent in Auburn Township. He was formerly a member of the United Methodist Churches in South Auburn and Skinners Eddy. Dale taught Sunday School for several years at Skinners Eddy United Methodist. He was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. Dale was a member of the Progressive Agriculture Organization. He enjoyed playing softball and watching Penn State football, Yankee baseball and cheering on the New York Giants. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Linda Jayne Tewksbury; five children and their spouses, LTC Dennis and Jenice Tewksbury, Fayetteville, NC, Anthony and Telysa Tewksbury, Silvara, Kevin and Lesley Tewksbury of East Rush, Jennifer Tewksbury-Brown and David Brown of Laceyville and Christopher and Melissa Tewksbury of Camptown; two stepchildren, Randy Knolles of Wyalusing, Heidi and Harry Mader, Jr. of Wyalusing. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Addie Tewksbury, Amanda Tewksbury, Kristin Tewksbury, Anthony Tewksbury, Tonette Jennings, Susanne Tewksbury, Seth Tewksbury, Travis Tewksbury, Madison Tewksbury, Tyler Brown, David Brown, Dustin Brown, Stephan Tewksbury, Mackenzie Tewksbury, Samantha Knolles, Miranda Mader and Brittany Mader. In addition, he had one great-grandson, Camden Drew Pearson. He is also survived by his three brothers and five sisters and their spouses, Frank and Audrilla Tewksbury, Winter Haven, FL, Louise and Don DeWolfe, South Auburn, Bea Gardner, South Auburn, Arden Tewksbury, South Auburn, Martha and James Proof of Montrose, Loretta and Leo Guiton of Irish Hill, John and Charlene Tewksbury of South Auburn and Dianne and Rick Lewis of Mehoopany.
Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Tewksbury and Elden Tewksbury. The family received friends on Tuesday, May 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Russell and Rev. Kathy Pierce, officiating.
