William D. Mahoney, East Main Street, Laceyville, died Friday in Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.

He was born in Windham Township, Wyoming County, Dec. 5, 1932, son of the late John W. and Mabel VanVolkinburg Mahoney. Mr. Mahoney was a Navy veteran of World War II. Before retiring in 1989, he was a mail carrier more than 25 years with the U.S. Post Office. Mr. Mahoney was a member of Wyalusing American Legion, St. Mary's Church, Wyalusing; National Rural Letters Carriers' Association and National Rifle Association.

Surviving are sons, Michael, RD 2, Laceyville; Kevin, Randolph, N.J.; daughters, Deborah Bomboy, Mehoopany; Karen, Meshoppen, Linda, Laceyville; eight grandchhildren; brother, Robert, Alabama; sisters, Doris Manning, Laceyville; Roberta Sleeper, Endicott, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 from Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Walter J. Plominski, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in North Flat Cemetery, Laceyville. Friends may call Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Mr. Arthur "Art" E. Manning Sr., age 82, of RR 2 Box 2301, Second Street, Laceyville, Pa., passed away at his home on Monday afternoon, Sept. 3, 2007. Art was born in Laceyville, Pa. on Sept. 11, 1924, the son of the late James D. and Elizabeth Jayne Manning Sr. Growing up, in and around Laceyville, he spent his entire life in the Laceyville area. From 1944 until 1946, he served his country, in the U.S. Army, in the European Theater, serving with the 795th Gunnery Battalion. After his time in the service, he was a truck driver for Dutch Repsher, of Laceyville, for over 20 years. After which he started driving tractor trailer for Taylor Beef in Wyalusing, Pa., for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. Art was a member of the Rought Hall Post 510 American Legion, in Black Walnut, Pa. In his spare time he enjoyed being with, and spending time with his family, and in the last few years, especially his grandchildren. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, the former Doris L. Mahoney Manning, at home. Also surviving are: his children: two sons, Jim Manning, of Evans Falls, Pa.; and Arthur "Buddy" Manning Jr., of Laceyville, Pa; and three daughters, Patricia Gruver, of Sugar Run, Pa.; Elizabeth "Betsy" Burridge, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Jackie and her husband Jerry Benscoter, of Laceyville, Pa; a sister, Gloria Rogers, of Meshoppen, Pa.; along with 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Manning, and Ted Manning; a grandson, Shannon Burridge; and two great-grandsons, Clay Manning, and Dillon Gruver. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa., with Rev. Kenneth Small, of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the North Flat Cemetery, in Laceyville, Pa., with members of the Rought Hall Post 510 American Legion, and Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post 3583, of Mehoopany, Pa. conducting graveside military services. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening. Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann Burridge, 59, of Macclenny, FL died on Jan. 17, 2008 at her home, following an extended illness.
She was born on June 20, 1949 in Skinners Eddy, PA, the daughter of Arthur, Sr. and Doris Manning of Laceyville and graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1967. Later, she moved to Florida, where she resided and raised her family.
Betsy was predeceased by her father, Arthur Manning, Sr.; a son and granddaughter.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Kimberly and Kathy of Macclenny and Katrina of Jacksonville; sons, Shawn of Sanderson, FL, Steven, Sammy and Shane, all of Jacksonville; mother, Doris Manning of Laceyville; sisters, Patti Gruver and Jackie Benscoter; brothers, James and Arthur, Jr., all of Laceyville; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Guerry Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Michael D. "Mike" Mahoney, 42, of RR 2, (Overshot Road,) Laceyville, died Friday at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, after a heart attack on Thursday.

Born Aug. 3, 1957, in Meshoppen, he was the son of the late William D. Mahoney and the former Dorothy F. Carter.

He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School, class of 1975. He later served in the U.S. Army as an E-5, stationed at Fort Meade, Md., from 1975 to 1978.

He was employed at the Procter & Gamble paper plant, Mehoopany, and as a truck driver for the Penns Best Trucking, Meshoppen, for the past several years. He last worked for Stacey McClain Trucking Inc., Tunkhannock.

He served as president of the Mountainside Lanes Sunday night mixed league bowling.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are step father, Jim Ayers, Melbourne, Fla.; sons, Greg Cowburn, Wellsboro; Darren Mahoney, Laceyville; daughters, Farah Zinck, Wellsboro; Christina Mahoney, Watertown, N.Y.; Amber Mahoney, Melbourne; Stephanie Mahoney, Laceyville; brother, Kevin Mahoney, Randolph, N.J.; sisters, Debbie Bowen, Melbourne; Karen Mitchell, Springville; Linda Mahoney, Laceyville; friend, Shelly Lott Crisman, with whom he resided in Laceyville; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wyalusing, with Father Thomas J. McDermott officiating.

Interment will be in North Flat Cemetery, Laceyville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laceyville-Meshoppen Ambulance Association, the Mehoopany Ambulance Association or to the Laceyville Public Library.
