Irma Cooper
Irma Audrey Cooper, 83, formerly of New London, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Coastal Carolina Medical center at Bluffton, S.C.
Born Dec. 31, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of Jesse Clark and Mary Ann Linch. On Nov. 28, 1942, she married Virgil Cooper in Memphis, Mo. He died Oct. 10, 1989.
Mrs. Cooper worked at Des Moines County Home Infirmary, Sylvania, and in 1958 began working as an X-ray technician for IRC - TRW. She retired in 1983.
She graduated from Pleasant Lawn Consolidated High School and enrolled in certified nursing assistant training at Burlington. She was a member of New London United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She also was a member of James Harland Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, New London Senior Citizens Club, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and New London VFW Auxiliary Post 7641.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil Cooper Jr. of Bluffton, S.C., and Gary Cooper of McLeansville, N.C.; one brother, Jesse Linch of Madras, Ore.; and two sisters, Wilma Schellhase of West Des Moines and Lee Marsh of Rockford, Ill.
A graveside memorial service for Mrs. Cooper will be at 11 a.m. May 16, in Forest Home Cemetery at Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating.
Memorials have been established for National Alzheimer's Organization and New London Methodist Church.
