Eldon Harris
Eldon "Leon" Harris, 72, of Danville, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 4, 1936, in Henry County, he was the son of Wayman L. and Mary Cecil Harris. On June 8, 1974, he married Joan Plummer in Nashua.

Mr. Harris worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant and at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown as a production worker, retiring in 1998. He also farmed. He attended Linwood country school, New London schools and graduated from Mount Pleasant high school. He enjoyed farming, gardening, mowing yards, auctions and the Iowa State Fair.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenny Plummer and Jeremy Ray Harris, both of Burlington; two daughters, Barbara Fay Dinger of Rockaway Beach, Mo., and Melanie Davis of Danville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Harris of Mount Union; two sisters, Wanda Smith of West Point and Mary Lou Oliver of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Harris will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Rick Latta officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville.

A memorial has been established for Long Creek Methodist Church.

Mrs. Greenfield was born Dec. 7, 1916, south of Mount Pleasant, the daughter of John and Hazel Short Cooper.

She married Cyrus H. Greenfield Sept. 18, 1938, in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1992.

After graduating from Douds High School and attending Parsons College, she taught at Red Oak rural school east of Douds and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and John Hyson Reneker Unit 494 American Legion Auxiliary, all in Douds.

Survivors include one daughter, Sondra Smith of Douds; five sons, James Greenfield of Indianola, Richard Greenfield of Fairfield, William Greenfield of Davenport, and Dwain and Michael Greenfield, both of Douds; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Heaton of Redwood Falls, Minn; and one brother, John Cooper of Whitney, Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Cynthia; and one brother, Virgil Cooper.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Connie Markle officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds.

Open visitation begins at 2 p.m. today and Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds; family will be present 7-8 p.m. both days.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church, Douds First Responders or Zion Lutheran Cemetery may be left at the funeral home.

He was born April 26, 1941 in Douds to Cyrus H. and Alta Geneva Cooper Greenfield, grew up in Douds and graduated from Douds High School.

He worked for Continental Airlines and Air France in Chicago, farmed and raised cattle in the Douds-Selma/ Keosauqua areas and worked a number of years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in various locations around the United States.

He was always active in the Republican Party, served as Van Buren County Chairman and First District Chairman and for a time served as Executive Director of the party for the state of Iowa and lived in Indianola.

Jim was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Douds, Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Davenport Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies and KAABA Shrine Temple in Davenport.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Ricky Greenfield (Dena) of Keokuk and Douglas Greenfield (Jacquie) of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, Jacob (Carly), Hannah, Adam, Amanda, Jordan and Garrett Greenfield, a sister, Sondra Dick (James) of Douds, four brothers, Richard (Shirley) of Fairfield, Dwain (Lyn) of Douds, William of Davenport and Michael (Debbie) of Douds, other relatives and many friends.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday April 29, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home with family present 6-8 P.M. Masonic rites by Keosauqua Lodge will follow visitation. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy 16 East, Douds.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Dena Nordyke (Russell) of Biloxi, MS, a son, Tony Greenfield of Eolia, MO, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Sondra Dick (James) of Douds, three brothers, Dwain Greenfield (Lyn) of Douds, William Greenfield of Davenport and Michael Greenfield (Debbie) of Douds.

His parents and a brother, James Greenfield preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday September 14, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds with Pastor Danny Carey officiating.
