2 SYCAMORE - James E. Phillips died at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in his home at 7503 Marion-Melmore Road, Sycamore. He was 81.
Born in Tiffin on Nov. 15, 1920, he was the son of Robert and Marie (Kopp) Philips. On Nov. 21, 1943, he married Louise Curlis, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Rebecca Dolinar, Amherst; Kathie Stein, Stony Point, N.Y.; Ann Phillips, Sebago, Maine; and Roderick Phillips, rural Tiffin; six grandchildren, Steven Dolinar, Jeffrey Stein, Katherine Dolinar, Carly Phillips, Maggie Phillips and Elizabeth Stein. An infant son, Michael, is deceased.
Mr. Phillips retired in 1980 as a caster at American Standard in Tiffin, where he had worked for 40 years. He was employed by the Mohawk schol system from 1982-86. A 1940 graduate of Sycamore High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Pacific Fleet aboard the battleship California. He was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ, the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class and Mohawk Historical Society.
The Rev. Diane Thomas will officate during the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday in Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, where a military graveside service will be conducted by Sycamore American Legion Post 250.
Calling hours at the funeral home are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Sycamore UCC or Hospice of Wyandot County.
