Born on Dec. 3, 1937, in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Eugene E. and Naomi (Shamp) Umphrey Sr.

Eugene was employed at Rock Tenn Paper Mill in Delaware Water Gap as a machine operator. He worked there for 28 years until his retirement.

An avid farmer, he loved to make wooden crafts and repair things. He was a resident of Stroudsburg his entire life and will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.

Surviving are two sons, Daniel L. Umphrey of Stroudsburg, and Eugene E. Umphrey III and his wife Karla of Stroudsburg; one brother, Albert Umphrey of Hawaii; two sisters, Patricia Snyder of Stroudsburg and Joyce Irish of Florida; three grandchildren, Danielle Umphrey of East Stroudsburg, Jessica Umphrey of Stroudsburg, and Eugene E. Umphrey IV of Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

For most of her life, she was a resident of Monroe County and was a member of the George Kemp American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 346 in East Stroudsburg.

In addition to her father, she is survived by four daughters, Penny Harriton of Cresco, Lodi Clark of Knoxville, Vicki Boushell of Chantilly, Va., and Barbara Lancaster of Bartonsville; one son, Donald Frick of Elgin, Ill.; one sister, DeeDee Brannan of Bartonsville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Harry Whitmore.
