5 Funeral services for LaVerne W. "Vern" Frederick, 50, 810 N.W. Conifer, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Corvallis First Christian Church, 602 S. W. Madison Ave., with the Rev. Roger Zimmerman officiating.
Mr. Frederick died Saturday morning of an apparent heart attack at Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Butler, Penn., where he was reared and educated. He received a degree in forestry from Pennsylvania State University. During college, he spent summers working in fire lookout towers in Washington's Snoqualmie Forest. He moved to Oregon after college, where he worked for the forest service near Paisley exvept during a stint with the U.S. Army.
On Jan. 21, 1961, he married Joanne Doris Stratton in Santa Rosa, Calif. In 1967 he was transferred to the Corvallis office of the forest service, where he was assistant timber staff officer. He was a member of the Corvallis Elks Club, the Corvallis First Christian Church, and the Society of American Foresters.
Survivors include his wife of Corvallis; sons Bruce W. and Ward C. Frederick of Corvallis; and parents Leroy and Esther Frederick of Butler, Penn.
After the funeral services, burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to the First Christian Church in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. 5th St. 97330.
