Joseph Alexander Archer was born on 20 February 1889 in Booneville, Prentiss, Mississippi. He and
Mary Shawhan Lail were married on 25 December 1912.

Joseph A. Archer, Sr., 79, 605 1/2 North Perkins, a retired commercial artist, died at 7:10 a.m. today in the Jackson Nursing Home after an illness of 18 months.
A World War I veteran, Mr. Archer moved to a farm in the Raleigh community from Indianapolis 48 years ago and later came to Rushville.
He was born in Booneville, Miss., on February 22, 1889, the son of James II and Frances P. Alexander Archer, and was a member of the Baptist Church in Mississippi.
During World War I Mr. Archer served overseas with Company D, 309th Engineers. He long had been active in local art circles and was a member of the Rushville Creative Art Asociation.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Mary A. Lail Archer; a son, Joseph G. Archer east of Raleigh (R.R. 3, Falmouth); four daughters, Miss Rozza Archer of Richmond, Mrs. Arabella Fultz of Greensburg, Mrs. Harold (Jacqueline) Heavins of Boulder, Colo.; and Mrs. John (Dorcas) Hufferd of Yorba Linda, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Mance Weinberger of Appleton, Wisc., and 12 grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
