A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene for Walter "Ted" Cairns of Eugene, who died May 10 of age-related causes. He was 81.

He was born May 31, 1911 [sic], in Elizabeth, Penn., to Walter and Dolly Carter Cairns. He married Florence Hein on Aug. 8, 1953, in Eugene. She died in November 2002 [sic].

He served in the military as a drill sergeant at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii and in Korea. He was a service station owner and Chevron dealer.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Cairns of Bandon; a sister, Cecilia Hennigan of Eugene; a brother, Richard of Sweet Home; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Richard Douglas Cairns was born on 21 June 1930 in Elizabeth, Allegheny, Pennsylvania.¹ He died on 3 August 2012, at age 82, in Oregon.¹ He was buried on 8 August 2012 in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Eugene, Lane, Oregon.¹

SWEET HOME - A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Eugene, for Richard Douglas Cairns of Sweet Home, who died Aug. 3 of age related causes. He was 82.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Sunset Hills Funeral Home.

He was born June 21, 1930, in Elizabeth, Penn., to Walter and Dollie (Carter) Cairns. He graduated from Eugene's University High School in 1949. He worked as a railcar distributor for Southern Pacific Railroad and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He spent most of his career as a line driver for PMT Trucking, retiring after 28 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Olsen and Jennie Cairns, both of Eugene; a sister, Cecelia Hennigan of Springfield; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mary Lou Cairns was born on 4 June 1931 in Pennsylvania.^1,2 She and Bernard Joseph Galvin were married on 14 July 1949 in Lane County, Oregon.^3,4 She and Harry Everett Beninger were married on 22 November 1969 in Clark County, Washington.⁵ She and Harry Everett Beninger were divorced on 12 August 1977 in Lane County, Oregon.⁶ She and Don Edwin Kalen were married on 13 September 1980 in Reno, Washoe, Nevada.⁷ She died on 21 April 2008, at age 76, in Springfield, Lane, Oregon.² She was buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Eugene, Lane, Oregon.²

Marjorie Elaine Harrington was born on 24 July 1932 in Baker County, Oregon. She and Ernest Lee Cairns were married on 28 May 1954 in Douglas County, Oregon. She died on 8 February 2006, at age 73, in Louisville, Jefferson, Georgia. She was buried in Davisboro City Cemetery, Davisboro, Washington, Georgia.

Elaine Harrington Wilcher, 72, of Louisville, Ga., a former longtime Baker City resident, died Feb. 8, 2006, after a brief illness.

Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Haines Methodist Church.

Her funeral was Feb. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Louisville. The Rev. Larry Montgomery officiated. Burial was in the family plot at the Davisboro City Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilcher was born on July 24, 1932, at Baker City and lived here most of her life. She was employed by the Haines Telephone Co. for a number of years and was employed at The Merc and Bohn's Clothing Store and by the Oregon State Police.

She and her husband, Curtis, moved to Louisville in 1983 after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. She worked as pro shop manager at Ogeechee Valley Country Club for a number of years.
Elaine enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening, but her greatest love in life was helping and doing for other people.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ervin and Allie Harrington of Haines; a son, Sherman; and a sister, Irene Van Houten.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Wilcher of Louisville; a daughter and her husband, Sherry and Rodney Loennig of Creswell; two granddaughters, Lisa Loennig of Corvallis and Cassie Loennig of Denver; three sisters, Helen Bogart of John Day, Eula Thompson of Prairie City and Valoria McCullough of Haines.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Haines Methodist Church.
