Harry Everett Benninger of Harrisburg died June 5 at age 58. His family chose not to give the cause of death.

He was born Oct. 8, 1941, in Eugene to Cecil and Elizabeth Donley Benninger. He had lived in the area his entire life.

He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1961, He worked for Weyerhaeuser Co. for more than 38 years, starting as a choker setter. In 1994, he was promoted to truck boss after working as a truck driver and a mechanic in the truck stop.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding all-terrain vechicles, and the oudoors. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his mother, who lives in Harrisburg, two brothers, Jim of Harrisburg and John of Springfield. A son, Gary, died previously.

Aasum Funeral Home in Albany is in charge of arrangements.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, at Sunset Hills Cemetery for Dean William Hennigan of Eugene, who died May 13 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 78.

He was born Oct. 21, 1931, in Eugene to Lester and Pat Tennant Hennigan. He married Cecelia Cairns on April 18, 1955, in Eugene.

He was a graduate of Eugene High School. He was a Teamster for 21 years for PMT, owned and operated D&C Wholesale Florist for 15 years with his wife, and was a gold miner.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard and Ronald, both of Eugene; a daughter, Connie Nolte of Canby; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Ernie, died in 1984.

Arrangements by Sunset Hills Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematorium in Eugene.

Second person dies in head-on crash near Walton

A second person died from injuries sustained when two pickup trucks collided head-on Tuesday afternoon on Highway 126 about 3 miles west of Walton, Oregon State Police said.

State troopers said Richard Hennigan, 58, of Eugene died at Sacred heart Hospital on Friday.

Crash investigators found evidence that one driver, of Bloomington Indiana, was driving his Ford Pickup west on Highway 126 Tuesday afternoon. At around 4:30 p.m., his pickup crossed the centerline and crashed head-on with a Chevy pickup about three miles west of Walton, Oregon State Police officials said. That driver died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy, and Hennigan in the passenger seat, were both were critically injured in the crash. An air ambulance flew the driver of the Chevy to Good Samaritan Regional Hospital in Corvallis. Hennigan was rushed to Sacred Heart in Springfield by ground ambulance. State Police said he died from his injuries on Friday.

Richard Dean Hennigan of Eugene, Oregon, passed away on October 10th, 2014 from a tragic vehicle accident at the age of 58. He was born February 20th, 1956 in Eugene, Oregon to parents Dean and Cele Hennigan.

Richard had a huge heart and a passion for animals and cars. He is survived by his mother Cele, as well as a daughter Breann, a son Ernie, and a granddaughter all from Eugene, Oregon. He also leaves behind a brother Ron and a sister Connie. He will be greatly missed by all as he joins his father Dean and his brother Ernie.

Two motorcyclists died Friday in separate accidents in Eugene and Springfield.

At 6:39 p.m. Eugene police responded to a fatal motorcycle accident at the intersection of Echo Hollow Road and Boston Lane.

Ernest Joe Hennigan, 24, who was formerly of Eugene and recently moved to Salem, died from chest injuries when the motorcycle he ws riding collided with a tractor-trailer truck operated by Ronald Charles VanderVeen, 41, of 1820 Echo Hollow Road, police said.

Hennigan was following the VanderVeen vehicle, both traveling south- bound on Echo Hollow Road. the accident occurred when the tractor-trailer was turning west onto Boston Lane and was struck on the right side by the motorcycle, police said.

No citations have been issued and police are continuing their investigation. Police have asked anyone who observed the accident to contact them.
