Biography

Daune (Dawn) Ellen Ames was born on 11 June 1948.1 She died on 20 October 1949, at age 1.1 She was buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, Wyandot, Ohio.1
Daune Allen Ames, 15-month-old daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Kenneth Ames, died by drowing in a fish and lily pond at the Earl Roberts home on West Saffel street shortly before noon Thursday.

Efforts by firemen, under direction of Chielf Wallace Bringman, of Upper Sandusky, who worked a resuscitator for two hours failed. Firemen were assisted by Karl Standbury, Upper Sandusky Deputy sheriff and state patrolmen. Dr. F. M. Smith pronounced the child dead when hope of reviving her was abandoned.

The child was playing in the Roberts yard, which is next door to the Ames home. She was reportedly under the observation by Robert Kitchen, with whom the Ames reside. He said the child suddenly disppeared and he immediately started a search. It was estimated that Daune was in the pool less than 12 minutes. The water was approximately two feet deep where the body was recovered by Mrs. Roberts.

Besides the parents, a brother, Ronald Lee, two years, and a sister, Susan Kay, three months, survive. Also the grandparents, Mrs. Mary Curliss, of Sycamore and John Curlis, Of Bucyrus and Mr and Mrs. K. Ames of Beach City, O.

The child was a great-grandaughter of Rev. S.M. Firestone, former pastor of the First Methodist church, Sycamore, where the infant was a member of the Cradle Roll.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore's Funeral home, with Rev. W.A. Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Friends may call at the Ames residence after 7 this evening. The body will be taken to the funeral home Sunday.
