Richard James Marken was born June 11, 1934 at Emery, SD to George and Cora (Webster) Marken. He grew up and attended school in Emery. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Dick was an over the road truck driver for 48 years, driving for different trucking firms. He trucked all states except Alaska and Hawaii. At the time of his retirement he was employed at Dakota Pump. Dick and Shirley enjoyed traveling and the many trips they took were with Shirley’s sister, Darlene and her husband, Leon. He enjoyed his flower garden, playing Santa for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being with his family and got a lot of enjoyment out of teasing them. He was known as grandpa M&M.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, brother, Charles, sister, Phyllis, infant brother, William and two sons-in-law, John Hinks and Conley VanWhye.

Helen M. Phelps was born on 2 November 1905 in Hanson County, South Dakaota.^1,2 She and Otto H. Jansen were married on 20 August 1928 in Davison County, South Dakota.³ She died on 9 November 2002, at age 97.⁴
