Ida Esther Dennis Goss's Story of the Dennis Family History:
In the early part of the 19th Century two brothers, John and James Dennis took passage from Wales, England for America, arriving in the Province of Ontario, Canada.
Not long after their arrival, John , attracted by the tales of the west, decided to seek a fortune, while James remained in Ontario and soon met and married a Miss Sarah Tice. They homesteaded in Oxford County where the family of seven was born, five boys and two girls (Henry ,Sara, Peter, George, Jonathan, and Caroline.)
The Shively family were early settlers in the state of Pennsylvania, of Quaker and Mennonite Faith. The father died when the youngest was about 3 years of age. The eldest child, Catherine, married a wealthy neighbor, Jessis Weaver, who soon after moved to Elgin County, Ontario, Canada, where the family remained until grown up. There names were Catherine, Eliza, Frederic, Anna, David and Ester.
Following the marriage of George J. Dennis to Ether Shively on October 28, 1866, they resided near Elmer, Ontario for some time, then moved to Forrest, Ontario, where four children were born.(Arthur-6/16/1867, Lansing- 1/25/1869, Edward- 4.14.1870, George- 6/30/1872).
In the spring of 1880 they moved to Chase Twsp., Lake County, Michigan. where William was born on 9/12/1880. In the fall of 1882, the family moved to Indianfields Twsp., Tuscola County, Michigan, where they resided until Oct. 1892. Then they moved to Akron Twsp. Tuscola County, Michigan. On July 25, 1904 mother Ester Dennis departed from this life and on July 28th was laid to rest in Demerest Cemetery, Akron Twsp. Father, George Dennis died *?@(?1925 in Bay City and buried in the family lot in Demerest Cemetery.
In the early part of the 19th century in England, Robert Neal and Caroline Southgate came to America and settled in Livingston County, Michigan and a few years later after moved to Tuscola County, near Wisner, where eight children- 5 boys and 3 girls - grew up and married. (Walte, Eliza, John, Temperance, James, Charles, Lydia and Arthur.
James R. Neal married Mary Ann Causley of Bay City on July 3, 1879. To this union were born Louis, Maud, Bertha, Dora, Raymond, Robert, and Lela.
