QUANCE MILL
The dam was originally built in 1826 and produced power for mills employing large numbers of people. In 1847 Richard Quance purchased the mill from Jacob Sovereen. It included the land and the lumber, grist and flour mills. Richard's son Peter assumed operation of the business and brother Robert joined him. They worked together until 1916 at which time Robert purchased the sawmill and Peter retained control of the flour and grist mills. In 1974 Quance Dam was purchased by the Township of Delhi from the Long Point Conservation Authority for $1. It is to be restored when funding can be secured.
