Billie was born October 12, 1919 in Crosbyton, Texas to John Doyle and Isabella (Belle) McDermett. She graduated from high school in Cliff, New Mexico in 1937. She married Chuck Houston May 30, 1937 in Tyron, NM; she was a homemaker and a ranch wife. She loved cowboys and watching bull riding.

She was a resident of Midland for over 75 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Midland for 70 years, Hillcrest Baptist Church for 9 years and second Baptist church in Andrews since moving to Andrews in 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Belle McDermett; her husband Chuck Houston in 1987; brothers, George and John McDermett; sisters, Rubilie Wesley and Francis Hawkins.

John coached the Southwest Little League for 20 years and owned and operated Lubbock Paint Center from 1965 until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gussie; two sons, John C. McDermett and wife Michele of Midland and David McDermett and wife Annette of Odessa; one daughter, Marilyn Clarkson and husband Steve of Spring; one sister, Billie Houston of Andrews; six grandchildren, Shaun and Kyle Clarkson, Halee and Brian McDermett, and Kaylin and Aubree McDermett.
