Chester Percival Kerner was a Chief of Police in Crookston, Polk, Minnesota.5 Chester P. Kerner, 72, of 605 Walsh St., former police chief of Crookston, died at a Crookston, Minn., hospital where he had been a patient less than a day.

Mr Kerner was born Feb. 18, 1890 at Potter County and was educated from Browns Valley, Minn. High School in 1911 and Grand Isle Business College in 1913, He was married at Gettsyburg to Fay E. Weaver on June 19, 1917.

He served as first class sergeant in the Army during World War l. He had lived in Crookston since 1919 and served as chief of police from 1940 to 1951. He was a life member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, American Legion Post 20, the Masonic Lodge and the Presbyterian Church where he was a past member of the church board and deacons.

Before going to Crookston, he was in the bookkeeping and banking profession working at Gettysburg , Browns Valley, Bagley, Red Lake Falls, Minn., and Rolette, N.D.

He served as paymaster for the Otto Eichoff Construction Co. from 1951 to 1955, when he retired.

Survivors include his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Wayne L. (Elaine) Berndt of Man hattan, Kas. and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 1 from the Presbyterian Church, Crookston, with the Rev. Stanley Johnson officiating.

Interment was at Gettysburg where services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Langslet Chapel with burial in Gettsysburg Cemetery.
