Funeral services for Mervin E. Yarrington were held at the Bradley funeral home Sunday, Nov. 12. The Rev. Geo. W. Turner officiated. Burial was in New Oregon cemetery. Pallbearers were Clarence Moen, Thos. Daly, Joe Hanson, Guy Pollitt, Bernard Costello and Gus DeNoyelles.
Mervin Eben Yarrington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Yarrington, pioneer settlers of Howard county, was born March 23, 1873, at the home farm south of the village of Vernon Springs. He was married Sept. 8, 1895, to Harriett Mitchell. Three children were born to them: a son Raymond of Cresco, and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Rakow of Mason City and Mrs. Alvah Denover of Chula Vista, Calif. His second marriage was on July 30, 1930, to Mahala Shafer who died in October, 1932. On Oct. 6, 1933, he was married to Lelia M. Anderson who with his three children, one brother Emory D. Yarrington of Rapid City, S. D., 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren survive.
As a young man Mr. Yarrington worked as a farm hand. He later worked as a carpenter for Martin Johnson. For more than 20 years he worked for H. C. Moen & Son and until the time of his illness which began in November, 1941. He died Nov. 8, 1944, at the home of his brother-in-law Rollo M. Bly. He was 71 years old. He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his wife who was his constant companion since he was stricken three years ago, and by all who knew him.
Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Alva Bly, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ferguson, Mrs. Beulah Emery and Mrs. W. R. Nemitz, all of Austin, Minn.; Will Rakow and daughter Mrs. Jim Wohlske and her daughter Nancy of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Anderson, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Anderson, Ossian. The following relatives arrived too late for funeral services and a brief service was held Monday afternoon: Mrs. A. E. Van Denover, daughter, Chula Vista, Calif., Aurilla M. Pappas, S2-c, Washington, D. C., granddaughter; Mrs. D. A. Wolske, Los Angeles, granddaughter, and Mrs. Wm. Rakow, Mason City.
