Biography

Hope Priscilla Dean was born on 18 April 1922 in Seattle, King, Washington.1,3 She and William (Bill) Davis Devin were married on 14 February 1942 in Seattle, King, Washington.4 She died on 19 June 2001, at age 79, in Bremerton, Kitsap, Washington.3 She was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery (5006W #7), Bremerton, Kitsap, Washington.
My life is like a diamond cut
with many sides revealed
Once I was a small child
with future still concealed
I didn't know what I would be
but pondered in my mind
I was a Princess royal
and folk of everying kind
Sometimes I was Tom Mix
or Tarzan wild and free
I loved to climb the acting bars
up in every tree
The poetry that caught my heart
was Wordsworths' "Daffodil"
I never was one to care for clothes
or any frill
Heidi was my favorite story;
The wilderness my idea of glory

The Depression taught the lesson
that people were cold and starving
The hit tunes of Tin Pan Alley
kept me forever marveling
That such great songs could be created
while America was unravelling.
Unemployment everywhere
and bloody strikes and riots

Hitler gobbling up the world,
the radio would not be quiet
We would not go to war we said
we couldn't hate a German
But when the Japs attacked our fleet
we finally saw red.

My friend named Bill
was called to serve his country in distress,
and I became his wife
before he put on Navy dress
For thirty years we had the fun
of raising 5 young Devins,
and then my Love, one day
was called away to Heaven.

My life then took a different turn
as I was left alone.
The kids were great, but they weren't here;
they were fully grown.
So I went with outdoor friends
and climbed mountains by the score
I never got enough of that
and always wanted more.

Alpine meadows beckoned me
and were a source of pleasure
The streams, the lakes,
the trees and hills
were for me my treasure
Son and daughter far away
gave reason to be flying,
I got to see the world that way
and hope to keep on trying.

I've reached the Golden Years of time
and enjoy my children's children
I have deep richness in my heart
and I'm grateful for this life of mine.

--Priscilla Devin.
