[Obit provided to Robert G. Moore by Bruce C. Johnson Jr. (Elgin OGS) December 1999]
The Aylmer Express
Obituary
Thursday, 15 Oct. 1925
p.7
Mrs. JOHN JOHNSTON

A very sad death occurred early on Sunday morning, October 11th, in the person of Martha Johnston, beloved wife of John Johnston, Talbot street, Malahide, after an illness of about a year. She underwent an operation in February last but never recovered strength. The end came very suddenly on Sunday morning. Deceased was in her 53rd year, and was a consistent member of St. Paul's church, Aylmer, and an energetic worker in the Ladies' Aid and Sunday School. By her unselfish service and cheerful disposition she endeared herself to the hearts of a host of friends, and until forced by illness last February, to resign, was the capable secretary of the M.S. of St. Paul's Church.

Eight years ago Mrs. Johnston moved to Aylmer, with her husband and daughter from Corunna, Ont. She resided here for five years and three years ago the family moved to the farm on Talbot Street East, where she died. Besides her husband and daughter Pauline, at home, four sisters and three brothers survive: Mrs. Amy Stephens and Mrs. Harvey Curry, of Grand Rapids, Mich; Miss Mary Vanderhoof, of Pasadena, Homer Pace of New York City; Lloyd (or Floyd?) Vanderhoof, of Cadillac, Mich; Leonard Vanderhhoof, Whaling, Mich; and Martin Vanderhoof, of Detroit, Mich.

The funeral took place from her ? residence on Tuesday, October ? at 2 o'clock p.m. and interment was made in the Aylmer Cemetery, ?, Waldemar Williams, of St. Paul's Church officiated.
