Katherine May Bowen was born on 9 August 1933 in Wayne County, Michigan.1,2 She died on 2 September 2011, at age 78, in Whittemore, Iosco, Michigan.2 She was buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Iosco County, Michigan.2
KATHERINE MAY SCHALM, age 78, was a resident of the Whittemore, MI area for more than 50 years, died at her home. She was born in to the late John and Gretta Bowen (nee Stonehouse). Katherine worked for several area businesses over the years and more recently handled the accounting for many of them. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching Tiger baseball and NASCAR. Katherine was a devoted member of the Good News Ministries Lutheran Church and the Whittemore Lioness Club. She is survived by her son Charlie Schalm of Whittemore, MI, daughter Liz "Beth" Schalm of Whittemore, MI, son Tony (Mary Jo) Schalm of East Tawas, MI, son Fred (Polly) Schalm of Tawas City, MI, daughter Marti (Rod) Nickell of Whittemore, MI, 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Katherine is also survived by her sister Ada (Dave) Stiles of Britten, MI, brother Jack Bowen of Whittemore, MI and brother Don (Jeanie) Bowen of New Mexico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Rudy Schalm, granddaughter Cathy Schalm and sisters Ruth Hinkle and Nan Larsen. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI. Rev. Jack Rohn will officiate and interment will follow. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
