Effie was born in Lakeview on April 22, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle Root. She married Harold J. E Durdle in Greenville on June 15, 1934. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Greenville Senior Citizens and a former member of Thalia Club. She was employed for many years at Jim's Market and O'Donald Pharmacy and during World War II she worked at Wolverine Glove Shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on Aug. 30, 1989; two grandsons, Jason and Jay Durdle; sisters, Dorothy Wright, Reba Dickerson, Violet Abbey, Mary Ellen Bromley, Marjorie Yager, Nona Lowery; and brother, Elton Root. She is survived by son, Gregory J. and Jan Durdle of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Holly Lynn and Daniel Buckmaster of Dayton, Tenn., Heidi M. and Ronald DeLong of Grand Rapids, Eric Allan and Julie Durdle with the U.S. Navy living in Kenosha, Wis.; great-granddaughters, Rachel Woody, Alexis DeLong; brother, Elverson and Maude Root of Florida; Sister, Dora Lutterloh of Greenville; sister-in-law, Barbara Durdle of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Scott Lindner of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial is in South Sidney Cemetery. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Michigan, Big Rapids.

HARCOURT - Rocky Jenkins, 59, of Harcourt, Iowa, and formerly of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at the Gowrie Care Center.

Rocky's wishes were to be cremated. Graveside burial will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Dayton Cemetery. Carson Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton assisted with the arrangements.

Rocky Dee Jenkins was born on August 10, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Herbert "Dee" and Bonnie (Rafdal) Jenkins. He attended Dayton Community Schools. Rocky worked in construction - building confinement buildings, grain bins, and siding houses, and later was employed by Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton until retiring due to ill health. Rocky enjoyed music, fishing, and spending quality time with his many friends.

Among the survivors are a sister, Beth Davis of Queen Creek, Arizona; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends. His parents preceded him in death.
