3 Died of Cerebral Hemorrhage following a 30day illness. Carney was a native of Weston, West Virginia, and was graduated from West Virginia State University in 1893. He came to Oklahoma that year, at the opening of the Cherokee strip. Later he practiced law at El Reno untill 1899, when he was elected county attorney and re-elected the next term. In 1906 he was named a delegate to the Constitutional Convention at Guthrie. He was appointed district Judge in Oklahoma County by Gov. Haskell in 1910.
Carney was nominee of the Democratic party for congress in 1912 in the old second district and was a delegate to the national Democratic convention at Baltimore, Maryland. He retired here in 1949 from his offices in the Fidelity National Bank Building where he had practiced many years.
A member of the Catholic Church, he is survived by his wife Ida May, four sons Lee, Joe, J.B., & John Jr. Two step sons Jack Tellegen & Rue Clyde Bell. A step daughter Beulah Lee Simpson and 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
