Twentynine Palms, Calif. - PATRECIA AYERS KILPATRICK died June 30, 2005, at her home in Twentynine Palms, Calif. She was 72.
She was cremated, and her ashes were recently buried with her husband on July 28, 2007, in Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, Oklahoma.
She was born July 14, 1932, to Robert Lee "Bob" Ayers and Elsie Marie Davis Ayers, the youngest of three children. Since her father was a welder in the oil field, she lived in many places in Oklahoma, but graduated from Duncan High School in 1950. For many years, she was a lifeguard in Duncan and taught swimming. In North Carolina, she taught swimming at the city pools and at Boy Scout camps.
She attended Oklahoma State University (then A&M) on a tennis scholarship. She majored in physical education and lettered in archery, volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball, marksmanship and swimming.
While in college, she met and married Lester Kilpatrick on May 28, 1952. He died in Apex, N.C., on July 27, 2007.
The couple raised four daughters. When her daughters were teenagers, she became a police officer in the small town of Grifton, N.C., where they lived at the time.
The couple separated in the early 1980s. Patrecia moved to Twentynine Palms to care for an uncle and took up permanent residence there, although twice she moved back to Oklahoma on a temporary basis to care for ailing relatives. Patrecia was a caregiver of people and animals. She was an accomplished outdoor enthusiast and an avid camper, hiker, adventurer and fisherwoman.
She is survived by four daughters, Laura Lea Hales, Karen Lynn Kilpatrick, Maritha Keil and Amy Oliver; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Pam Germany of Duncan.
