Vera M. Nowman, 87, of Bourbonnais, passed away Thursday (Aug. 8, 2013) at Presence Our Lady of Victory in Bourbonnais. Vera was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Kankakee, the daughter of Elmer and Ruby (Goodrich) Brassard. Her husband, Samuel W. Nowman, whom she married March 27, 1943, preceded her in death July 1, 2013. Vera enjoyed gardening, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Vera is survived by her children, Ace (Laura) Nowman, of Florida, Lodeane Mitchell, of Kentucky, Dorothy Nebergall, of Arkansas, Sandra Smith, of Bradley, Edward (Mona) Nowman, of Bourbonnais, Tad (Marianne) Nowman, of Bloomington, Jane (Terry) Odette, of Bradley, Cindy Laxton, of Arkansas, Donna (Terry) Ford, of Florida, Chuck Nowman, of Lincoln, and Mary Ann (Buck) Moreland, of Bradley; 45 grandchildren, 75 plus great-grandchildren, 10 plus great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary (Gilbert) Irps, of Kankakee, and Iona Tedford, of New Mexico; three brothers Donald, Lawrence, and Richard Brassard; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Nowman. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Chester, Johnny, Mike and Sam Nowman; and five grandchildren. A time of gathering will take place from 10 a.m. Monday until the noon services at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais Chapel. Samuel W. Nowman, 89, of Bradley, passed away Monday (July 1, 2013) at Presence Our Lady of Victory in Bourbonnais. He was born June 17, 1924, in Ottawa, the son of Samuel and Phoebe Nowman. Samuel served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for General Mills, then Henkle, retiring after 32 years of service. He enjoyed coin and gun collecting, and watching Westerns. Don was born on September 25, 1927 in Kankakee, IL to Elmer & Ruby Brassard. He married Edna Leadingham in 1950; he later married Patricia Snack on November 17, 1981 and she preceded him in 1996. Surviving are his sons Joe wife Teresa Brassard of Greenup & Ed wife Lori Brassard of Peoria; Step son Dale Underwood of Joliet, IL; Brothers Larry Brassard of Michigan and Richard Brassard of Minooka, IL; Sisters Iona Ledford of New Mexico and Rosemary Irp of Kankakee, IL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 3 sisters and two great-grandchildren.

Don worked for 32 years at the General Motors plant Willow Springs. He was an avid Bow hunter. He served his country during World War II in the Air Force.
