Biography

Myron (John) Duren was born on 11 September 1937 in Shelby, Polk, Nebraska.1 He died on 18 December 2014, at age 77, in Columbus, Platte, Nebraska. He was buried in Circle Mound Cemetery, Rising City, Butler, Nebraska.2
Myron (John) Duren was an Owner in John Duren Sanitation Service.2,3 Myron "John" Duren, 77, of Rising City, passed away peacefully at Brookestone Acres Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation with his family by his side, Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014.

John was born on Sept. 11, 1937, in Shelby, NE. He was the son of Leo H. and Lois M. (Morgan) Duren. He attended the Cottonwood Country School near Surprise, NE, through the fourth grade; he then attended and graduated from the Rising City Public Schools in 1955. John was in the U.S. Navy from 1955 1958.

On June 17th, 1960, he married Barbara Ann Schlesinger and to this union three sons were born, Jeffrey, Michael and Robert.

During his lifetime, John worked at Behlen Manufacturing and Dale Electronics followed by working at Becton-Dickinson and owning John Duren Sanitation Service for over forty years; he was a lifetime collector who filled many a cabinet/shelf with the treasures he found through out the years. John also loved to attend auctions around the area. He was Mayor of Rising City during the 1970s and served on the Rising City Town Board, served on the Honor Guard of the Columbus American Legion Post # 84 and was the recipient of the Keith Bryant Award. He also served on the Honor Guard for the Shelby American Legion Post #296, and was a member of the Shelby American Legion for many years. John was also instrumental in establishing the baseball program in Rising City in the late 1960s. John also served on the Rising City Volunteer Fire Department. John was an avid Husker fan and collector of Husker memorabilia. He loved going to Husker games and tailgating with his family at DurenNation.

John and Barb traveled to many places over the years with family and friends. John was especially proud of his three sons and their accomplishments in life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara, his three sons and spouses, Jeffrey and wife Diane (Crook) of Rising City, NE; Michael and wife Linda Sue of Goodyear, AZ; Robert and wife Linda (Rathje) of Lincoln, NE. Grandchildren are Shauna (Sam) Soulliere, Lincoln, NE; Joni (John) Crumrine, Lincoln, NE; Audra Duren, Chicago, IL: Ryan Duren, Lincoln, NE; Jake Duren, Lincoln, NE. Great-grandchildren are Quinn Soulliere and Ellie Ann Crumrine. Siblings are MaryGean (Don) Neujahr, Lincoln, NE; Dave (Norma) Duren, Columbus, NE; Jerry (Carol) Duren, Columbus, NE; Judy Weisbarth, Mentor on the Lake, OH, along with his mother-in-law Kathryn Schlesinger, of Columbus and sister-in-laws Sherry (Dale) Hopwood, Greenville, UT; and Diane Adkins, Shelby, NE, and many nieces and nephews; family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Lawrence Schlesinger, and brother-in-law, Doug Weisbarth.
