A lifelong Toledoan, Dick was a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He blessed all around him at home, work and throughout the community with his gift for combining a profound intellect with a flair for fun. Dick's energy and zest have inspired us all about how we can enhance our lives and the lives of others.

He was born in 1927, in Toledo, to Helen (Spangler) and John William Entenmann. Dick graduated from DeVilbiss High School and joined the US Navy in 1945.

He served in the Pacific theater and Hawaii as Quartermaster Third Class, graduated from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan and received a law degree from the UM Law School in 1954.

Dick first practiced law with Legal Aid in Toledo. He joined the firm of Spengler, Nathanson, Hebenstreit, Heyman, Mc-Carthy, and Durfee in July, 1955, and retired from the practice of law in October, 2008.

From 2004 onward, Dick pursued a "second career" at the Toledo Museum of Art as a docent, where he combined his passion for art and education by teaching elementary school students about art, culture, and history.

Among his and his wife, Nancie's many interests were traveling, gourmet dining, cooking and baking, gardening, and the fine arts.

Dick was a strong supporter of his church, St. Mark's Episcopal, where he worshipped and sang for over 50 years. Dick's faith was profound and it was a central part of his life. Dick served St. Mark's as a member of the Vestry and Senior Warden of the Vestry, a member and chairman of the Endowment Committee, and a member of the choir.

Dick was an active and enthusiastic member of the Toledo Museum of Art, WGTE-TV, downtown Kiwanis Club, the Toledo Club, and Masterworks Chorale.

As a resident of Swan Creek Retirement Village, he acted as a member of the Board of Directors and president of the Resident Association, and chaired the Gardening Committee.

Dick was especially involved with his alma mater, the University of Michigan. He served for many years as president and Scholarship chairman of the University of Michigan Toledo Alumni Club, he was very active with regional and national alumni boards, and in 1989, he received the U of M Distinguished Alumni Service Award.

Dick made innumerable trips to Ann Arbor--for concerts, cultural events, games, meetings, meals, and many other reasons!

He was also a member of the Toledo Post 335, American Legion, the North Toledo Community House, Children's Theater Workshop, and Planned Parenthood. Dick was an active member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Toledo Bar Association.

Dick started his musical career as a youth with piano lessons and soon progressed to the organ. He used his sonorous "basso profundo" to perform in the UM Glee Club, the PSURFs, The Ken Holland Chorus, St. Mark's Choir, Masterworks Chorale, and the Brothers-in-law (barbershop quartet).

Dick also loved the theater, appearing in many plays and musical productions while in high school and college.

Dick enjoyed playing golf and handball, and playing tennis with his family.

Dick is survived by his be-loved wife of 51 years, Nancie (Howe); son, Richard Jr. (Shari); daughter, Elizabeth (John) MacKay; grandchildren, Ian and Alexa MacKay and Turner, Walter, and Nancy Entenmann; sister, Joyce (George) Streepey; sister-in-law, Imogene Entenmann; brother-in-law, Donald Short, and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Dale and Lloyd; his sister, Lois, and his sisters-in-law, Sarah and Margaret.

The family would like to thank Dick's many friends, and the staffs of Senior Independence, CareLink and Hospice of Northwest Ohio, for their assistance during his illness.

Dick has donated his body to the University of Toledo College of Medicine.

A service and celebration of Dick's life will be held on October 16, 2009 at 2:30 p.m., at St. Mark's, 2272 Collingwood Boulevard. The St. Mark's Choir and Masterworks Chorale will combine in a performance of Faure's Requim.
