Obituary
Arthur E. "King of the Cabbies" Vance, 78, of Moline died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Vance was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Rock Island, the son of Arthur and Pearl Carl Vance.

He had worked as a cab driver for various cab companies for 45 years, retiring in 1996. He later worked for Per Mar Security, Davenport.

Art was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a life member of VFW Post 1303, Rock Island. Art enjoyed ballroom dancing, fishing, feeding the ducks along the river, watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and experiencing the changing seasons.

Survivors include children, Cheryl Holmes, Vancouver, Wash., Melody Poole, Rock Island, Robert Vance, Princeton, Iowa, Randy Osterkamp, Arthur "John" Vance Jr., Portland, Ore., Rick Vance, Texas, and Dan Vance, Davenport; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his special love, Joan M. Crull, Dec. 11, 1999, and several brothers and sisters.

Obituary
Leo T. Cornwell, 70, a resident of Coggon for the past 40 years, died at his home Nov. 12. He was born the son of Almond and Norma Kinton Cornwell on Sept. 25, 1904 at Colesburg. On Dec. 2, 1922 at Quasqueton, he was married to H. Elizabeth Dennis.

Mr. Cornwell was employed at Quaker Oats Co. for 35 years, before his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2272.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, A. Norman Cornwell of Cedar Rapids, Robert Cornwell of Cold Water, Mich.; three daughters, Shirley Urherek of Key Largo, Fla., Mrs. Darrel (Kathleen) Lindley of Oxford, Ia., Marlene Blake of Warrenton, Va.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Richard Cornwell of Pueble, Colo., Loyell Cornwell of Independence; and a half-sister, Mrs. William (Maxine) Stillson of Pueble, Colo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Harold Cornwell; and a half-brother, Roy Cornwell.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Christian church in Coggon, conducted by the Rev. Barton G. Murray. Interment was in Coggon cemetery. Friends may if they wish, contribute to the Coggon Christian church memorial fund. Murdoch funeral home in Coggon had charge of the arrangements.

Donald J. Cornwell,64, of 5516 J St. SW, died Monday in his home after a sudden illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after noon Friday at the chapel.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald of Hiawatha and Thomas of Iowa City; a daughter, Carol Simmons of Mount Hope, W. Va.; three sisters, Shirley Larson of Key Largo, Fla., Marlene King of Penson, Tenn., and Kathleen Lindley of Oxford; and two brothers, Robert of Tekonsha, Mich., and Norman.bc no addresse. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild.

Donald was born on July 17, 1927, on a farm near Troy Mills. He was in sales at Link Belt Speeder, now FMC, for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the State Historical Society of Iowa and a World War II Army veteran. Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
