Mildred L. Wintermute, age 87, of Wesley Village, Pittston, died Friday, December 23, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gail B. Wintermute, in 2004. They had married in 1946.

Mrs. Wintermute was born May 27, 1924, in Pen Argyl, PA, and was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nellie (Smale) Young.

She attended the Churchman Business College in Easton.

She and her husband served churches in Hawley, Scranton, Springville and Bird-in-Hand, PA. She was also a retired piano teacher and secretary.

Mrs. Wintermute was a member of Beach Lake United Methodist Church and past president of Scranton District of United Methodist Women and past president of the Hawley Women's Club. She was active with the Hawley Senior Center and instructed over 100 Hawley youth in piano. She had a great love for children, having taught Children's Sunday School classes for more than 50 years. She was also involved in Christian Education work in the Scranton District United Methodist churches and Wyoming Conference churches. Along with her husband, she directed elementary and special needs camps for many years at Sky Lake Camp, Windsor, NY.

Millie had a great interest in angels and had a collection of over 1,000 angels of all types. She now contentedly rests in the arms of angels.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Kosik and the dedicated staff at Wesley Village for the compassionate care Millie received during her 5 years there.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Myrtle Street United Methodist Church, 840 Harrision Ave., Scranton, PA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time.

Rev. Gail B. Wintermute, age 88, of Hawley died unexpectedly Saturday, November 13, 2004 at his home. He married Mildred L. Young in 1946 and celebrated 58 years recently. Born May 19, 1916 at East Mauch Chunk, he was the son of the late Russell and Florence (Benner) Wintermute. Rev. served various Methodist Church pastorates for 59 years. Prior to being assigned to the Hawley, Lakeville and Paupack Charge in 1970, he served in Scranton, Springville and Bird-in Hand churches. He was retired as a Methodist Minister in 1980. He was a member of the Wyoming Conference of the United Methodist Church and he attended the Beach Lake United Methodist Church following his retirement. He was also a member of the Hawley Senior Citizens Group and a former Hawley Rotary Club member. He is survived by his wife, Mildred L. (Young) Wintermute; a daughter, Louise Georgette, Sedona, AZ; a son, Gail B. Wintermute, Jr., Scranton; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday November 30, 11 am at The Beach Lake United Methodist Church, Rt. 652, Beach Lake with Rev. Dr. Gordon E. Weightman officiating. Grandson Rev. Gail Benner Wintermute Sr. (1916-2004) was born on May 19, 1916 in East Mauch Chunk. Gail married Mildred L. Young, and they had two children -- Louise Georgette Wintermute and Gail Benner Wintermute Jr. He was a minister in the Methodist Church for nearly six decades. Among his charges were Scranton, Springville, Bird-in-Hand, Hawley, Lakeville and Paupack. He was a member of the Wyoming Conference of the United Methodist Church, and after retiring in 1980 joined the Beach Lake United Methodist Church. He died at the age of 88 on Nov. 13, 2004, in Hawley, Wayne County, PA. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Pen Argyl, Northampton County, PA. Rev. Gail B. Wintermute, age 88, of Hawley died unexpectedly Saturday, November 13, 2004 at his home.

He married Mildred L. Young in 1946 and celebrated 58 years recently. Born May 19, 1916 at East Mauch Chunk, he was the son of the late Russell and Florence (Benner) Wintermute.

Rev. served various Methodist Church pastorates for 59 years. Prior to being assigned to the Hawley, Lakeville and Paupack Charge in 1970, he served in Scranton, Springville and Bird-in Hand churches. He was retired as a Methodist Minister in 1980.
