Harry Benjamin Hancock, 83, of Box 278A, Roaring Spring RD 1, formerly of 618 N. Sixth Ave., Juniata, died Thursday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. He was born in Tyrone, son of the late Harry A. and Esther Marie (Adelman) Hancock. He first married Isabel Ann Wintermute, who preceded him in death. He then married Judith A. McGeary Oct. 24, 1987, in Everett.
Surviving are his wife; children: Larry D. (Dora) Hancock of Arlington, Va., Jeffrey L. (Sandy) Hancock of Cinnaminson, N.J., and Deborah A. Hancock of Martinsburg; stepchildren: Scott R. (Sheri) Ellis of Charlotte, N.C., and Traci J. (Cory) Treese of Altoona; grandchildren: Matthew and Scott Hancock, Cory and Lindsay Treese and Tyler and Jamie Ellis; brothers: Jack A. Hancock in Alabama and Allan G. Hancock of East Freedom; and sister, Blanche E. Horner of Hollidaysburg.
Harry attended Leamersville Grace Brethren Church. He retired as yard master from Conrail in May 1985, after 35 years of service. He was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a staff sergeant while serving in England.
Friends will be received from 10 to the 11 a.m. memorial service Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Leamersville Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Mark Lingenfelter officiating.
