Robert moved about with his family from Ohio to California to Ohio to Tennessee (where he graduated from high scholl at the Baylor School, Chattanooga) and back to Ohio where he went to college (1917-1921) and medical school (1924-1928) at the Ohio State University. He served on the faculties of Western Reserve University in Cleveland (1933-1939) and Washington University in St, Louis (1939-1954). In 1946 he became dean of the medical school of Washington University. In 1954 he was appointed vice chancellor for the health professions, University of Pittsburgh, and in 1957 President of the Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York in Brooklyn and dean of the college of medicine.

John Israel Miller

John Israel Miller was a Superintendent of Public Works/ Civil Engineer in State of Ohio.
1,2 John was a school teacher in Van Wert County until 1906 when he was elected County Surveyor. In 1911 he became Superintendent of Public Works of the State of Ohio with his office in Columbus. In 1923 he returned to Van Wert and opened a law office. A few years later he was elected County Attorney and in 1937 he was appointed Postmaster of Van Wert. He retired in 1952.
Following the death of Elta in 1935, John married Ellen Wallace Rowell. By a previous marriage (terminated by divorce) she had two sons, Joseph Rowell and Donald Rowell. There was no issue of her marriage to John.
There is a large framed photograph of John Miller with his grandson Richard Allan Moore.
