3 She was educated in University of Mississippi Education. Alada Harris Owens, 98, a retired school teacher, died Sunday, December 3rd, 2006 at Attala County Nursing Home in Kosciusko. Graveside services will be held today, December 5, 2006 at 1 p.m., at Charleston Cemetery, South Franklin Street in Charleston, MS. Culpepper Funeral Home of Kosciusko is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Owens was a native of Tallahatchie County, MS. She received her BS degree in education from the University of Mississippi. She taught second grade for forty years, most of which at Sunflower School, in Coahoma County. After retiring Mrs. Owens was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Iota Teacher Sorority.
Mrs. Owens loved church and was a very active member of Riverside Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS before moving to Kosciusko in 1985 to be closer to her family. While living in Kosciusko, she attended Williamsville Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Archie Young Owens; her parents Harmon & Annie Lee Harris; three brothers, William, Otto, and Howard Harris; two sisters, Etelka Culp & Rebecca Harris and a great-grandchild, Anna Marie Owens.
Her survivors include; her son James Earl Owens, Sr. and daughter-in-law Harriett of Kosciusko; grandson James Earl Owens, Jr. of Madison; granddaughters Carrie Sims of Ridgeland & Stephanie Morgan of Forest; great-grandchildren Madison and Austin Sims of Ridgeland and Alexandria & Benjamin Owens of Madison.
