Robert H. Snover, 88, of Montrose, died Monday at home. He was the son of the late Eugene and Temperance Bedell Snover. His wife is the former Betty Ross. They were married April 12, 1941.

Born on May 3, 1917, in Mill City, he was an agent for Nationwide Insurance and also worked at Gay's True Value. He attended Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, where he was its organist for more than 50 years. He was also in the Navy during World War II. He also used to be on the Tunkhannock Ambulance crew.

Also surviving are two sons, George and Linda Snover and grandson, Robert, of Vallstone Spa, N.Y.; Dale and Catherine Snover and a grandson, Collin, of Minneapolis; a daughter, Luanne Snover of Montrose; a great-grandson, Jeffery Snover of Endicott, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Snover; three brothers, Albert, Harold and Carl, and a foster child, Dale Robert Chapman.

The funeral will be Thursday at noon at the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, 51 Putnam St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Kenneth Trexler officiating. Interment will be at Montrose Cemetery, Montrose.

Friends may call today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. Memorial contributions may be made to Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church 51 Putnam St., Tunkhannock, 18657, or to the Endless Mountain Health System, 1 Grow Ave., Montrose.

Betty G. Snover, 88, of Montrose died Thursday, May 11, 2006, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Waverly, daughter of the late Casius H. and Gladys Ross. Her husband Robert H. Snover preceded her in death in September 2005. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 11 of this year.

She loved children and having three of her own was not enough. She and her husband were foster parents for the Friendship House in Scranton. Through the years, the couple took in almost 120 foster children ranging in age from 2 days to 16 years old.

She enjoyed cooking from scratch using ingredients she had canned fresh from the garden. Not only an avid cook but also a pretty handy gal with a needle, she used her creative talent to design quilts, crewel and embroidery works.

She is survived by a daughter, Luanne Snover, Montrose; sons and daughters-in-law, George R. and Linda Snover, Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and Dale C. and Catherine Snover, Minneapolis, Minn.; grandsons, Robert Snover and Colin Snover; a great-grandson, Jeffrey Snover; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and James McGuire, Rochester, N.Y.; and Helen and Leonard Rice, New Port Richey, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Lori Ross, Avon, N.Y.; Ken and Jo Schriner, Wellsburg, N.Y.; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a foster child, Dale Chapman.

Services were held Monday, May 15, from Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church Street, Montrose.

She retired as a teacher from the former South Dickinson Elementary School in the Carlisle Area School District; formerly taught in the Interboro School District in Delaware County; was a graduate of the former Indiana (Pa.) Normal School; a member and former deacon of Second Presbyterian Church; and a member of the Pennsylvania Educators Organization.

She was the widow of E. Harold SNOVER. Surviving are two daughters, Janet HOFFMAN of Amherst, Mass., and Elizabeth LUTHER of Johnstown; a son, Wayne Harris SNOVER of Philadelphia; a sister, M. Elizabeth HARRIS of Bridgeville; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in Green Ridge Village. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.
