Donald Richard Rowett was born on 1 April 1931 in Franklin, Essex, New Jersey. He died on 18 May 2006, at age 75, in Newton, Sussex, New Jersey.1 He was buried on 22 May 2006 in North Hardyston Cemetery, Hamburg, Sussex, New Jersey.2

FREDON - Donald R. Rowett, 75, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Franklin to Frank and Louise Reed Rowett, Mr. Rowett graduated from Newton High School in 1951. He and his wife lived in Andover Township for 40 years and recently moved to Fredon.

He was very active in the Warren County Horseshoe Pitchers Club, The New Jersey Horseshoe Pitchers Association, the Kittatinny Rangers Square Dance Club, and the Sussex County Art Society.

He was a former member of the Andover Township Fire Department and the Andover Township Recreation Committee.

Mr. Rowett retired from Sears after 29 years as a service technician. After retirement, he operated a sharpening business for about 10 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mabel Bross Rowett; three daughters, Donna McGurgan of Andover, Cindy Rowett of Lake Hopatcong and Susan Andres and her husband, Donald, of Fredon; a brother, Reed of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Judy Rowett Butts of Galena, Ill.; a brother, Richard of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Billy, Michael and Donald McGurgan, Diane Andrews and Daniel Coleman; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia McGurgan.
