3 Robert M. Burrows, 87, of East Stroudsburg, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, at home. He was the husband of the late Ethel A. Lanterman Burrows.
Born on July 24, 1919, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Ashton L. Burrows and Bessie Hartman Burrows.
He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg High School Class of 1937 and was an outstanding basketball player in high school. He was a graduate of East Stroudsburg University and also attended Moravian College in Bethlehem.
He was a teacher of mathematics at East Stroudsburg High School for 32 years and was the athletic director and golf coach for the system coach. He also taught at Pocono Pines School in Pocono Pines.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater of War.
In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and golfer.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union in East Stroudsburg. He was also a member of several clubs, including American Legion Post 346 of East Stroudsburg, the CLU Club in East Stroudsburg, Elks Lodge 319 in East Stroudsburg, and the Pocono Singles Club.
He was a resident of Monroe County for most of his life.
He is survived by three daughters, Ethel Anne Burrows of Jessup, Md., Lillian L. Reilly and her husband, Michael, of Freisen, Germany, and Roberta M. Burrows of Gilbert; three grandchildren, Laura Beth Todd and her husband, Patrick, of Kansas City, Mo., Aaron P. Wicks of Del Rio, Texas, and Eric R. Groenthal and his wife, Remy, of Jessup, Md.; two brothers, James E. Burrows and his wife, Ruth, of Glen Burnie, Md., and Jacob A. Burrows and his wife, Arlene, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and an aunt, Dorothy Lessig and her husband, Charles Lessig, of Hamilton Square.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwy Burrows and Ashton H. Burrows.
