5 Mrs. Budd, whose remarkable life spanned three centuries, spent most of her nearly 108 years in this rural northwestern corner of New Jersey. Born to Andrew E. Snover and his wife, the former Olivia A. Van Horn, in the tiny Sussex County community of Balesville in 1895, by age 20 Plume was teaching the 3 R's in a rustic one-room schoolhouse nearby. After World War I she married Robert Budd, and in addition to raising their family, the couple ran a Fredon boarding house which catered to the boom in local tourism during the 1920's and 30's. Still later Mrs. Budd managed a country store in Andover Junction and worked as a substitute teacher in area schools. Predeceased by her husband and children, she left Sussex County to spend her final years in the Victoria Nursing Home near Cape May. Upon her death at age 107, her remains were returned to her native northwestern New Jersey and laid to rest in historic Yellow Frame churchyard in July 2003. She was survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
