---- - Effinger J. Buck of 1027 Petersburg Road, Sandy Creek Township (Hadley), passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65.
Mr. Buck was born Jan. 27, 1945, in Trenton, N.J., a son of William Henry Buck Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Tallman Buck.
He was honorably discharged following 13 years of service with the New Jersey Army National Guard.
Mr. Buck had been employed by New Castle School of Trades as an instructor in diesel mechanics. He went on to work as a drafting engineer with Pittsburgh General Refractories and then with New Castle Industries, from which he had retired.
He had served as a Webelos leader for Pack 89 and assistant coach for the former Commodore Perry baseball team.
Mr. Buck enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching NASCAR, but most of all cherished the moments shared with his family and friends.
On Sept. 17, 1966, he married the former Diane Julianna Dunigan, who survives.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by: his mother, Toms River, N.J.; a daughter, Billie Jo Lynn Rhoades and her husband Brian, Greenville; three sons, Timothy James Buck and his wife Tammy; and Robert Kenneth Buck and his wife Hope, all Hadley; and Shane Michael Buck, Greenville; five sisters, Mary Elizabeth Ford and her husband Richard, Toms River; Suzanne Starr and her husband Dennis, Cream Ridge, N.J.; Nora Jane Eldridge and her husband Ted; and Margaret May Robotin and her husband Joseph, all Bordentown, N.J.; and Kathleen Pheobe Steinruck, Gainesville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Deloris Buck, Trenton, N.J.; and an Army buddy and lifetime friend, Walter Williams, Mount Holly, N.J.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Robert, Andrew and Kacee Gilliland; and Nichole, Amanda, Justine, Kimberly, Samantha, Kaylee and Joseph Buck; and 24 nieces and nephews, 32 great-nieces and -nephews and several great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Mr. Buck was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, William Henry Buck Jr. and Robert Kenneth Buck; and a nephew, Patrick Dunigan.
