Mary Ellen Bravender, daughter of Isaac and Maria Bravender, was born in Putman Washtenaw county, Michigan, January 26, 1838. She was married on February 22, 1855, to Philo Swan of Ingham township, who died in 1911. Eight children were born to them: George, Philinda, Edgar, Lida, Sarah, Lucy, Myrtie and Hoel. George and Myrtie died in early life and were later followed by Philinda and Lucy.
Mrs. Swan leaves to mourn their loss, two sons, two daughters, twenty-three grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and a host of friends and neighbors. She became a Christian while in the girlhood's home in White Oak.
Funeral services were held from her home, where she lived since her marriage, Tueday, Nov. 6, with interment in Hawley Cemetery.

Pelina was married to William Amsdel on Dec. 18, 1868 in Unadilla, Livingston, MI. The name Amsdel is also sometimes spelled Amsdill.
Pelina is buried next to her husband William at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Mason, MI. She does not have a gravestone. They are on lot number 537 in Section F. Pelina is in grave number 7. The following people are also buried on this lot: William Amsdel (son), Addie Amsdel (wife of William), James H. Dean (brother of Addie), Ella Dean (wife of James), Ada Dean (daughter of James H. and Ella Dean).
Mrs. Perlina Amsdel died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Swanson, 164 Greenwood, yesterday noon at 12:45 o'clock. She was 85 years old and leaves, besides the daughter at whose home she died, two other daughters, Mrs. Inez Shortly of Chicago and Mrs. Rachel McLean of Jackson, one son, Nelson Amsdell of Detroit; two brothers, Alfred Bravendear of Dansville and Hielder Bravadear of White Oak; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Siells of Mason; two step-daughters, Mrs. Ellis Dean and Mrs. T. H. Fowler; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church in Mason Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will be made in Mason Cemetery. The body can be seen by friends at any time at Hebble's undertaking parlore.
