Gronda - Jean Francis Gronda, age 66, of Middleburg, a retired Health Aide with the Michigan School System, passed away July 31, 2011, as a result of cancer. Jean was born October 13, 1944 in Ypsilanti, Mi. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years; Charles R. Gronda; two step-sons Craig Gronda of Cheboygan, Mi. and Jeff Gronda of Midland, Mi., Son, Russ Broka of Middleburg, Fl., Daughter, Robin Frick also of Middleburg, Fl. and several Grand-children: Trevor, Jordan, and Kaylee Gronda of Cheboygan, Mi., Jenna and Hanna Carpenter of Midland Mi., Seth, Luke, Levi, and Selah Broka of Middleburg, Fl. and Kierra Frick of Middleburg, Fl.. She also has surviving siblings: Brother, Joe Keene of La Mesa, Ca., Joan Lapp of Midland, Mi. and Jude Keene-Martinez of Benson, Az. Jean was a lover of the Southwest and all things Native American, a horse and animal lover of her two cats and her bird, and a fun and generous Grammy. She fought Multiple Myeloma with tenacity and without complaint for eight and a half years. She passed away in her sleep, while at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, with her tireless husband at her side. Close friends and family celebrated her arrival in Heaven with tears, laughter, and singing the hymn "How Great Thou Art". The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Steven Todd Keene was born on 26 March 1963 in Ypsilanti, Washtenaw, Michigan.1 He died on 25 June 2011, at age 48, in Chelsea, Washtenaw, Michigan.1
Steven Todd Keene was educated Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan.2 Steven, 48, of Chelsea, MI. passed away at the Arbor Hospice Residence with his family by his side. He was born the son of Jerry R. And Glenda J. (Warren) Keene.

Steve was a graduate of Ypsilanti High School and Western Michigan University. On May 2, 1987, he married Candy VanZile and she survives.

Steve was a pilot and loved flying. In the course of his career, he traveled to every state except Hawaii, and numerous countries throughout the world. He learned to fly with his father who was a private pilot. He enjoyed traveling around the country with family and friends to hunt whenever he could and loved his "Mancations" hiking out west.

Most of all he was a loving husband and father, and coached his daughter's soccer team in Chelsea for many years. In addition to Candy, he is survived by his two daughters Samantha and Lisa, brother Michael (Sally) Keene of Munith, Uncle Wayne (Deirdre) Warren of Milan and nephew Nathan and niece Alicia and his great nephew Mason. Steve is also survived by his mother in-law and father-in-law Pat and Lee Anne Van Zile, sister-in law Lori (Mike) Vigen of Kalamazoo, brother-in-law Rick (Karen) Van Zile of Beavercreek, Ohio, and brother-in-law Karl (Liz) Van Zile of Hanover, as well as nephews Tom Vigen, AJ Vigen, Connor Van Zile, and JT Van Zile, and nieces Kaitlyn Van Zile, Karli Van Zile, Jenna Van Zile, Kelly Fecher, and Jessica Fecher.

Funeral services were on Thursday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home.

Biography

William M. Amsdel was born on 24 April 1825 in Hamburg, Erie, New York.1 He was married on 27 July 1852. He and Perlina (Paulina) Bravender were married on 18 December 1868 in Unadilla, Livingston, Michigan. He died on 5 May 1892, at age 67, in Mason, Ingham, Michigan.1 He was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason, Ingham, Michigan.1
William M. Amsdel was a Carriage Maker. Civil War- 23rd Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery- 08 Spe 1862- 14 Jul 1865.1 William was a wagon maker or carriage maker according to the 1850 and 1880 US Censuses and according to his death certificate.

William was a private on the Union side according to Civil War records. He enlisted in Lewiston, New York on Sep. 8, 1862 and was discharged on Jul. 14, 1865 at Fort Porter, Buffalo, NY. He was in a regiment called 23rd Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery.

The name Amsdel has been spelled with one L or two or with an e instead of an i as in "Amsdil". William is buried at Maple Grove cemetery near John and Elizabeth Disler in Section F, Lot 537, Grave 8. John and Elizabeth were the parents-in-law of Williams's daughter Inez. His gravestone says, "CO. A. Light Artilery, NY". He has a veteran's grave stone which says "23 NY". Others buried on the lot are as follows: Addie Amsdel, William M. Amsdel (son), Ada Dean, Ella Dean, James Dean, Pelina Amsdel, William Amsdel (father).

Inez May Amsdel was born on 5 January 1872 in Mason, Ingham, Michigan.1 She and George William Disler were married on 31 December 1886 in Mason, Ingham, Michigan.1,2 She and George William Disler were divorced on 19 July 1917 in Calhoun County, Michigan.1 She and George Patrick Shortley were married on 31 July 1917 in Battle Creek, Calhoun, Michigan.3,4 She died on 3 October 1945, at age 73, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.1 She was buried on 6 October 1945 in Maple Grove Cemetery (Section ), Lot 1587, Grave 2), Mason, Ingham, Michigan.1
Mrs. Inez May Shortley, wife of George P. Shortley, died at her home in Chicago, October 3, 1945.

Funeral services were conducted from the Ball Funeral Home in Mason, Saturday, October 6, the Rev. C. Satterlee officiating. Eastern Stars of Mason and Chicago Northern Lights Chapter assisted in the services. Burial in Maple Grove cemetery, Mason.

Deceased was born at Mason January 5, 1872, being the daughter of William and Pelina Amsdel. She is survived by a son, Guy L. Disler and wife; two grandsons, George and Irving of Eaton Rapids; three granddaughters, Glendora Elston and Loris Disler of Eaton Rapids and Lillian Lawrence of Battle Creek; two sisters, Mrs. C.D. Swanson of Battle Creek and Mrs. Philo Patrick of Lansing; one brother, Nelson Amsdel of Detroit; eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts. She was honored and beloved by all.
