William P. Rimer, age 93, of Merrillville, IN passed away on November 30, 2011 after a short illness. Bill was a retired supervisor with U. S. Steel. He was a charter member and past Chief of Independence Hill (Merrillville) Fire Department. He was a "Gold Card" member of the Gary Sportsman Club and a charter member of First Presbyterian Church of Merrillville.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. (nee Guntrum) Rimer and his daughter, Karin A. Rimer-Petrovich.

He is survived by 3 children, Patricia A. (Gary Bross) Rimer-Besser, Bonnie L. (Richard) Rimer-Bekelya, and son, William E. (Janice) Rimer; ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Rev. John Starr officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.

She was preceded in death by a son, George R. "Rusty" Longworth; a granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Longworth and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Donald Routzon.
Betty was employed for twenty years in the maternity ward at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was a member of the North Baltimore Order of the Eastern Star; DAV Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. She was an active member of First Christian Church, participating in the LOGOS program. She was an avid fan of Ohio sports teams and was an avid Findlay bowler and golfer. Betty loved her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Birchaven community for their wonderful care given to Betty during her stay there.
A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at The First Christian Church, 620 North Main Street, Findlay, with Pastor Bob Bowen officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay.
Visitation hours are 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home where an Eastern Star service will begin at 6 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County, 4550 Fostoria Avenue, Findlay, OH 45840.
