Mrs. Burns, a solo practicioner who had recently undergone treatment for cancer, was killed in an auto accident, He is survived by his wife, Carrie Teegardin, a reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a young son, Warner and an infant daughter, Katherine, his family also included his two beloved golden retrievers, Eliza and Sarge. Mr. Burns was an avid newspaper reader,a radio junkie, and a devoted fan of rock music.In addition to this law practice he co-owned a restaurant called Dakota Blue in his Grant Park neighborhood. A native of New York, Mr. Burns graduated from the Touro School of Law "87"; Hartwick College, "82"; and Harborfields High School, "78" in Huntington, NY. Survivors also include his mother, Mary VanNostrand of Hendersonville, NC., brother Richard of New York, NY, and Peter of Fairfield CT. Mr. Burns was the son of the late J. Richard Burns and the brother of the late James Burns. H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel, 1020 Spring Street NW. A memorial service was held Friday, June 16, 2006, 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 501 Grant St., Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kate and Warner Burns Educational Fund, 107 Peavine Creek Ct. Decatur, GA 30030. J.M.
