He was born on July 8, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Glenn E. and Edna (Snover) Lyons. He married Carol Richard on September 14, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer.
Donald graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1956 and then attended Western Michigan University for 2 years. Don was the general manager/owner operator of Lyons and Smith Department Store in downtown Lapeer for 39 years and then worked in maintenance at Suncrest for another 5 years until his retirement in 1996. Don was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, the Library Board, 11 years as a City Commissioner and a member of the Lapeer Planning Commission. Don was Chairman of the City of Lapeer Building Authority during the renovation of City Hall and the building of the Public Safety Building. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1940 where he also served as a member of the Board of Trustees. Don was named the Jaycees Outstanding Young Man of the Year. Don loved to sing, loved classical music, had a great interest in electronics, Canadian fishing trips with friends, Lions Club projects, float building, watching football and just being with his friends and family, particularly on his patio.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lyons of Lapeer; daughter, Jill Lynn Lyons of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; son, David J. (Heidi) Lyons of Lapeer; and his granddaughter, Sophia Lyons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Suncrest, Pix Art Council or the Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lapeer.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN and lived in Huntington, Long Island, NY for twenty-five years. She was a 1950 graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.

She moved to Henderson County in 1993 and to the Givens Estates in 2006. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and choir in Hendersonville.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Richard Burns, who died in 1982, and Hugh Van Nostrand, who died in 1999; and by two sons, James T. Burns and Stephen G. Burns.

She is survived by her sons, Richard D. Burns and partner, Robert Berg, of New York, NY, and Peter M. Burns and wife, Allyson, of Fairfield, CT; two stepdaughters, Barbara Van Nostrand of Atlanta, GA, and Jean Hughes and husband, Wayne, of Richardson, TX; daughter-in-law, Carrie Teegardin of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Bonnie McNamara of Alpine, TX, Suzanne Jones of Brewster, MA, and Kathleen Montagne of Hendersonville; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Blythe Street in Hendersonville. The Reverend Joe Gernoske will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Holyoke College, Attn. Development Office, 50 College Street, South Hadley, Massachusetts 01075, or to the Givens Estates Resident Assistance Ministry, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
