Biography

Ernest Evard Schaible, Sr., was born on 23 March 1901 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He and Mary S. Dengler were married about 1923.3 He died on 25 April 1978, at age 77, in Frenchtown, Hunterdon, New Jersey.2 He was buried in Upper Tinicum Cemetery, Upper Black Eddy, Bucks, Pennsylvania.4
Ernest Evard Schaible, Sr., was Woodworking Carpenter.3 Ernest E. Schaible Sr., 77, a builder, restorer and cabinetmaker of Uhlerstown, Bucks County, died Sunday at Buckingham Valley Nursing Center, Pineville.

He wa a native of Tinicum Township, and as a boy worked on barges plying the Delaware and Lehigh Canal. He was widely known in Bucks County for his craftsmanship and his knowledge of local history and landmarks. He worked at Stover Mill in Erwinna and in Tinicum Park and was a member of the Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen.

He was a firm believer that old crafts shoud be preserved, and he was well known for the colonial architecture in the homes he built and restored for his hand-crafted early American furniture. His works can be found throughout the U.S. and Western Europe, and several of his restored antiques are owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

His wife, the former Mary Danger, died in 1960. He is survived by a son, Ernest Jr.; four daughters, Mary Fox, Jennie Bergeron, Edna Schendan and Kathryn Holder; a brother, Arthur; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dr. Robert Perry, of Erwinna, will officiate at memorial service at the Stover Tinicum Park, Route 32, Erwinna, on Sunday at 2 p.m. His body was willed to the Humanity Gift Registry.

Born: Edna was born and raised in Uhlersown, PA. Personal: She graduated from Frenchtown High School in 1946. After high school, she pursued a nursing career in Philadelphia, but returned home to help care for her mother and work as a switchboard operator in Frenchtown, NJ. Later she worked for the Riegel Paper Corporation in Milford, NJ until she married David James (Chen) Schendan and quit to raise a family in 1963. Later, in 1984 she returned to work until her retirement and divorce in 1992.

Survivors: In addition to her ex-husband James, of Walnut Creek, CA, and children, surviving family members are sister, Kathryn Holder of Winston Salem, NC; a brother, Ernest E. Schaible, Jr. of Uhlerstown, PA; and eight nieces and nephews.

Edna was cremated and a private service was held in San Leandro, CA.

Mrs. Sybilla A. Erdman, 94, of 632 E. Broad St., Quakertown, died Wednesday in Quakertown Community Hospital. She was the widow of William H. Erdman.

Born in Bedminster Township, she was a daughter of the late Samuel W. and Amanda (Snyder) Allem.

She was employed by the former Fretz pants factory, Keelersville, for many years until retiring in 1931. After that, she was a housekeeper in the Quakertown area.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kellers Church.

Survivors: Son, Allen of Quakertown, two grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
