Ralph Anson Jones, 84, died Feb. 10, 2003 in Moravian Hall Square Retirement Community, Nazareth. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Bayer) Jones.
He worked for the U.S. Foreign Service for 29 years in Chile, Brazil, Poland, Thailand, Germany, Spain, the Soviet Union and Kenya. Later, he served in the Department of State in Washington, D.C., in the 1960s as deputy director of the office of U.S.-U.S.S,R Exchanges. After retiring in 1970, he worked for three years for the Conservation Foundation and four years for the Gallup Poll in Washington.
He received a bachelor?s degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1938 and a master?s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Medford, Mass., in 1939.
Born in Mount Bethel, he was a son of the late Anson and Edith (Titman) Jones.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines, China and Japan.
He was a charter member of the Department of State American Legion Post 68 and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He was a member of the National Cathedral Association in Washington and served as the NCA representative on the Committee for Selection and Supervision of the Cathedral Young Volunteers-in-Service. He taught at the Cathedral Medieval Workshop and he worked for the D.C. Habitat for Humanity building projects.
He was Scout master of Bethesda, Md., Boy Scout Troop 1303, 1962-66.
Survivor: Son, Philip of Mount Bethel. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy.
