Montelle Moore Boyd, 80, Capron, editor and publisher of the Boone County Courier for the past 40 years, died early Sunday morning at Hinsdale Sanatarium from an apparent heart attack. He had been visitng his daughter, Mrs. Grace Shouba, at her home in LaGrange when he became ill and was taken to the hospital.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1889 at Cappa, near Bloomington. He attended Bloomington schools and graduated from Harvard University in 1912. He then farmed in Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin for about 10 years and came to Boone County in the late 1920's. He was employed by Dairy Herd Improvement Association for three years before purchasing the Boone County Courier.
Mr. Boyd married the former Iva Klumph on April 1, 1936 at LeRoy Township. She died in June 1941.
He was an active member of Capron Methodist Church; Illinois Press Association, Capron Lions Club; Leroy Grange; Boone County Farm Bureau; and one of the founders of People's Credit Union at Capron.
Surviving is a son, Merle, New York City; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Grace) Shouba, LaGrange; two grandsons, Vincent and Derek. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Jesse Sowell at the Capron Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Blaine Cemetery.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday up to the time of services at the church.
A memorial had been established for the American Cancer Society.
